What Is Life Like In Kings Hill?

Kings Hill is an idyllic parish and village in Kent. Located between the quaint towns of Maidstone and Tonbridge, Kings Hill is a relatively new village (built in 1989) which mixes traditional village life with contemporary amenities.

Recently voted “Kent Rural Community of the Year”, Kings Hill boasts fantastic community amenities including two schools, a local farmers’ market and easy access to nearby towns and London. Unsurprisingly, the area is popular with families and those looking for the ‘good life’, whilst remaining close to all those modern day must-haves.

History Of Kings Hill

Although a recently developed village, Kings Hill and the parish have a rich history. During the middle ages, it was a royal hunting ground and then, during the 20th century, became an airfield, which saw fighter planes take to the skies during the Second World War. In 1989, the former West Malling airfield site was developed, creating 2000 homes and 800,000 square feet of business space. Many roads within Kings Hill (such as Braeburn Way, Discovery Drive and Melrose Avenue) nod to Kent’s apple growing history, which has been producing apples for centuries.

The parish development has been sympathetic to the area and iconic buildings like the Control Tower (built in 1942 and now part of Liberty Square shopping hub), Picketts-Hamilton Fort and Bofors light anti-aircraft gun tower are still standing, documenting Kings Hill’s important history.
