A short history of Barnehust

Although the town itself is relatively new, the area around Barnehurst has a long and fascinating history. Nearby Hall Place in Bexley dates back to 1537 and today retains many of its original features. Local legend has it that notorious highwayman Dick Turpin leapt over the gates on horseback on his way to cheat the gallows! In more recent years, the area has been associated with famous figures, including Roald Dahl, who lived on Hurst Road in Bexley between 1927 and 1934, and the singer Kate Bush, born in Bexleyheath in 1958.
