Once a tiny farming village, Kingsdown expanded rapidly after the First World War as people moved out of the city to enjoy the benefits of countryside living and a quick commute. It changed its name to West Kingsdown in the 1950s to help avoid postal confusion with other Kent villages. One of the village’s most famous structures is its Grade II-listed windmill, which dates back to the 19th century and can be seen close to Pells Lane.
